Cost of Living Event Highlights Impact of the Crisis on our Communities

On 27 October, organisations from Rhondda Cynon Taf, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan all came together in an event organised by Plaid Cymru Member of the Senedd for South Wales Central, Heledd Fychan.

The event, which took place at The Feelgood Factory at Bryncynon Strategy was an opportunity for organisations and individuals working to support people who are being impacted by the cost-of-living crisis to come together and share what they are seeing through their work. It was also an opportunity for them to share ideas and best-practice, whilst also discussing what steps can be taken by the Welsh and UK Governments to provide greater support.

Speaking after the event, Heledd Fychan MS said: “All attendees are all seeing an increase in demand, with more people in crisis needing urgent support.

“People are struggling to find money to be able to eat and heat their homes, and organisations stated that they are increasingly seeing people take desperate measures such as borrowing money from loan sharks.

“The crisis is leaving people homeless, and is having a severe impact on the mental health and well-being of people of all ages.

“More can and needs to be done by both the Welsh and UK Governments to ensure no one dies this winter because they can’t afford basic human rights such as food, and a warm and safe home.”
